About Me

noun: any member of a class of words that typically can be combined with determiners to serve as the subject of a verb, can be interpreted as singular or plural, can be replaced with a pronoun, and refer to an entity, quality, state, action, or concept.

I’m Maigh – pronounced like the month of May with a soft *guh* on the end.  I have my Irish heritage to thank for the name, and a youth spent in Anchorage, Alaska to thank for my sense of humor.

I’ve been fiddling with cameras most of my life, starting with bright yellow under-water 110 Minolta hand-me-down I inherited from my oldest brother when I was in 6th grade.  The love affair has continued since then in varying degrees, and in the last few years, I’ve started spending more time doing what makes my heart happy: wandering about with a camera in hand.

I’m a member of the Atlanta Photographers Guild, and sit on the board of Atlanta Photography Exhibit as the Communications Chair. I’d love it if you stopped what you were doing right now to take 3 minutes to check them both out.  I’ll wait.  They’re both wonderful organizations of talented individuals to whom I owe great thanks for their kindness and support.   In the summer of 2010 with the encouragement of my amazing partner Mick, and these folks, I took my “hobby” of photographing friends and travel adventures a step further.

Late to fully bloom but eager to learn, I took an internship with local photographers Leah and Mark, an inspiring and talented Atlanta area couple changing the way we view and approach photography.  I graduated from the internship with new found confidence in the skills I already had and the new ones I acquired.

Today I carry one camera or another nearly everywhere I go, and consider everything I see a delicious opportunity to communicate what my heart feels with the power of a lens and the click of the shutter.
